Professional Certification

The Emirates Planning Association strives to comprehensively and continually enhance the quality and performance of the planning and urban design profession in the United Arab Emirates across all sectors. Essentially, the academic and professional qualifications and experiences of the practicing planners and designers are key to the development of the profession and its positive role in the planning and design of communities and the vibrancy and well-being of their current and future generations. In order to achieve excellence in the planning practice in the professional arena, the EPA will enact the following system of professional certification, registration and ranking of all UAE-based practicing planners and urban designers in all relevant sectors.

Certified Practicing Planner (CPP)

Requirements and Eligibility: the candidate for the CPP must meet the following requirements in order to formally receive the certification under this category:

  1. Must have a valid EPA membership under the category of “practitioner”.
  2. Must have obtained an accredited bachelor or master degree in “planning” from an accredited academic institution.
  3. Must have completed at least two (2) years of active professional planning experience within the United Arab Emirates in either the public or the private sector.

 

Required Documents: the applicant must complete the specified application form and submit the following supporting documents:

  1. A copy of a valid EPA membership certificate.
  2. A copy of authenticated academic degree certificate or parchment;
  3. An official letter of professional experience singed and stamped by the employers indicating the service period and roles.

Certified Practicing Urban Designer (CPUD)

Requirements and Eligibility: the candidate for the CPUD must meet the following requirements in order to formally receive the certification under this category:

  1. Must have a valid EPA membership under the category of “practitioner”.
  2. Must have obtained an accredited bachelor or master degree in “urban design” from an accredited academic institution.
  3. Must have completed at least two (2) years of active professional experience in urban design within the United Arab Emirates in either the public or the private sector.

 

Required Documents: the applicant must complete the specified application form and submit the following supporting documents:

  1. A copy of a valid EPA membership certificate.
  2. A copy of authenticated academic degree certificate or parchment;
  3. A copy of authenticated final academic transcripts.
  4. An official letter of professional experience singed and stamped by the employers indicating the service period and roles.

Fellow Emirates Planning Association (FEPA)

Requirements and Eligibility: the candidate for the FEPA must meet the following requirements in order to formally receive the certification under this category:

  1. Must have a valid EPA membership under the category of “practitioner”.
  2. Must have obtained an accredited bachelor or master degree in “planning or urban design” from an accredited academic institution.
  3. Must have completed at least ten (10) years of active professional experience in planning or urban design within the United Arab Emirates in either the public or the private sector.

 

Required Documents: the applicant must complete the specified application form and submit the following supporting documents:

  1. A copy of a valid EPA membership certificate.
  2. A copy of authenticated academic degree certificate or parchment;
  3. A copy of authenticated final academic transcripts.
  4. An official letter of professional experience singed and stamped by the employers indicating the service period and roles.
