DETAILED PLANNING AND PLACE MAKING

Course Overview:
This course will focus on developing the basic principles and skills required for preparing detailed area planning and essential elements of urban design. Examples of different types of areas will be used to demonstrate good design standards and practices. The course will present place making as a unique planning and design approach as it is applied in different parts of the world. It will cover aspects of the treatment of the public realm with special reference to the case of UAE. This course will involve major hands on practical case studies and at least one field visit.

Learning Outcomes:

Become familiar with the principles of good detailed area planning and design.

Understand how to effectively prepare detailed area plan projects i.e. from inception to final master plan submission.

Become aware of the principles of sustainable and people-centric planning and their application in the context of the UAE.

Planner's primary role is to prepare and execute plans of different types and nature. This course aims to introduce long-range spatial plans (also known as general or comprehensive plans) and how they are typically prepared.
