URBAN PLANNING LEGISLATION, GOVERNANCE AND INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORKS
Course Overview
This course will discuss the legal bases of urban planning and development. Planning legislation is the source of legitimacy upon which planning powers are defined and practiced in the real world. The course will also address the different planning governance and institutional models practiced in different settings. Special emphasis will be placed on UAE’s legal, institutional and governance systems and traditions and their role in the planning practice both locally and federally.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the importance of the legal framework for the planning profession and practice.
- Become exposed to multiple types of planning legal tools and instruments.
- Become familiar with various planning governance models and systems.
- Understand the significance and role of institutional structure for plan making and implementation process.
- Be able to assess legal and planning governance frameworks.
